Carved from a single piece of reclaimed oak, this piece refers to the power of gesture of the human hand. In this case the suggestion of a clenched fist could be perceived. Alternatively, a suggestion of holding something to give is implied. A tension between hard and gentle is therefore created.
The piece was originally commissioned on behalf of the NHS on the subject of the Five ways to Well Being, and was exhibited for a duration in the community gardens in Burgess Park in South East London. The sculpture addresses the necessity to give and to be generous.
