A family member to Table for One, this piece has been realised from the same cypress tree, and it’s turned legs from the same dismantled Victorian mahogany chairs. A friction between contexts became apparent, bringing into question the boundaries of where nature and the setting of domestic dwelling can reside harmoniously. Wood for purposes of domestic furniture wood is usually heavily honed and controlled, detracted from a representation of nature. In this case the precise elegance of Victorian woodturning, juxtaposed with the raw natural state of unaltered cypress tree wood serve to synphonise, yet are elements at opposite extremes.
